What to expect
Ride the hidden, unridden, and forbidden Point Loma for pancreatic cancer research. The Jim Krause Memorial Charity Bicycle Ride of Point Loma is a ride in memory of our Point Loma Rotary fellow Jim Krause who unfortunately passed away 2012 from pancreatic cancer. We are putting this event together to raise awareness and funds to research and hopefully one day, a cure. Each year we donate the majority of the funds to UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center who is dedicated to translating promising scientific discoveries into new options for the care of cancer patients. Founded in 1979, it ranks among the top centers in the nation conducting basic and clinical cancer research, providing advanced patient care, and serving the community through outreach and education programs. The ride starts and ends at Liberty Station and includes exclusive scenic 5/25/62 mile routes through beautiful San Diego. The public is invited to the free after-ride healthy lifestyle expo with local vendors, music, and refreshments. Ride the Point is limited to 600 riders, registration will close once this number is reached. Family Ride: A great, low key ride along bicycle paths and sidewalks that provide unparalleled views of San Diego Bay and the waterfront. It starts at the historic USS RECRUIT in Liberty Station. The ride is fully supported by volunteers along the route and traffic control at all intersections. This ride is perfect for children, beginning riders, cruisers, and challenged athletes. 25 Mile Ride: A scenic ride from Liberty Station (the historic old Naval Training Center San Diego), along the west side of San Diego Bay, with spectacular views of historic Fort Rosecrans, Coronado and the downtown skyline. With a stop at Cabrillo National Monument, the ride heads through Ocean Beach and does a loop around the east side of Mission Bay before heading back past Old Town San Diego, ending again in Liberty Station. Metric Century Ride: A challenging route that follows the 25 Mile Course but adds a new northern route. At the Mike Gotch Memorial bridge, it heads north on Rose Creek trail and Santa Fe. The route traverse through beautiful La Jolla Colony area then on through UCSD, North Campus with a rest stop at Moores Cancer Research Center. From UCSD, the route travels on North Torrey Pines Road and along the coast to the edge of Del Mar. At this point, it heads back south through Carmel Valley, UCSD, Mission Bay and on to Liberty Station. It finishes along the same route as the 25 mile ride, passing by Old Town San Diego and ending in Liberty Station. There are four climbs with a total elevation change of 2,667 feet. VIP Ride: Open to any rider who wants to contribute more for pancreatic cancer research and have an enhanced ride experience. The VIP experience includes VIP reception, concierge services, reserved parking, exclusive registration check-in area, continental breakfast, first start, event jersey, special SWAG, and VIP luncheon at the end of the ride. Ride and have lunch with fellow VIP’s including political, business, and community leaders, and meet the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center researchers who are the beneficiaries of the ride. VIP riders can choose the 10 Mile, 25 Mile, or Metric Century Ride depending on their preferences. Registration and check-in starts at 6:00 am at Oggi’s Liberty Station, and the VIP ride starts at 7:00 am. We thank all our past riders, sponsors, and volunteers and look forward to riding with you again this year!
