What to expect
The San Diego 100 course is a 90% single track mountain course which covers four recreational areas in the east county mountains of San Diego. The start and finish area are located at the south parking area of Lake Cuyamaca Recreational Area. The course includes trails traversing sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Noble Canyon, the Cuyamaca and the Anza Borrego State Parks, and Mt Laguna Recreational Areas. A very challenging course with approximately 26,000′ feet of total elevation change (13k climb & 13k descent) with a 32 hour time limit. Selected runners must agree to the strictly enforced limit of one crew vehicle which includes any pacers that are helping the runner. This year’s event starts on Friday at 6:00am and ends on Saturday at 2:00pm. There is a 32 hour time limit with intermediate aid station cut off times. The race has 16 well stocked aid stations with drop bags available at 8 of the aid stations. The event has a 300 runner limit with qualification standards required to apply for entry. A lottery is usually required to select the starting field due to higher demand than our permits allow. A waitlist is maintained once the 300 entrant limit is reached. Qualification to ApplyAs a requisite to apply, applicants must have completed a 50 mile ultra race in under 13 hours between the dates of January 1, 2018 to March 15, 2022. Applicants who have completed a 100K or a 100 mile within the time limits of that race within that same time frame are also qualified to enter. You can sign up for the race without your qualifier as long as you get your qualifier by March 15, 2022. However, if a lottery is necessary, preference will be given to those runners who already have their qualifier, and those pending qualification will be placed on the waitlist. Should a spot open, they will be granted entry, pending the qualifier. Please also be aware that if you fail to qualify, your entry will be subject to our refund policy, so please review it carefully. Applicants are also required to perform 6 hours of trail maintenance as a volunteer or 6 hours of volunteer service at another ultra or other community service from between June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. In lieu of trailwork, we also offer an option to donate $100 to support our volunteers and Trailfit which services the trails of San Diego County. Those who do not complete the volunteer requirement or donate to Trailfit will not be allowed to participate in the race. This is STRICTLY enforced. SOLO DivisionThe 2022 event will again have a Solo Division to recognize all runners who opt to run the entire race without the support of a crew or pacers with spectators only allowed to meet Solo runners at the start and finish line. All finishing Solo runners will receive special awards to include a unique belt buckle. Solo runners will have to rely on their drop bags and the aid stations for all support. Solo runners are allowed to run with other registered runners but must rely only on themselves (drop bags) and aid station volunteers throughout the entire race. No one is allowed to be a spectator or crew for Solo entrants.
